Greenbelt Alliance as we celebrate the season
with our 2006 FALL OUTINGS series featuring some
of the Bay Areaâ??s best hikes and farm
tours. The following is a list of outings happening
from OCTOBER through DECEMBER. Please post this
information in your calendar and/or community
lists. Feel free to contact us if you would like
to write an article or feature Greenbelt Alliance
in any of your publications. And, you are always
welcome to attend any of our Greenbelt Outings.
These outings happen all over the Bay Area and
the difficulty ranges from easy to hard core;
see the outings key below for the hike's degree
of difficulty. There's something happening almost
every weekend!
Greenbelt Alliance protects open space and promotes
livable communities in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Greenbelt outings are farm tours and hikes that
provide a fun way to become acquainted with Bay
Area open space.

Pleasanton Ridge and Wine
Alameda County
Traverse the East Bayâ??s Pleasanton Ridge
through oak-studded grassland and expansive views.
See remnants of historic farms and finish with
a taste of modern agriculture at Ellingston Winery
in Sunol.

Bluegrass for the Greenbelt
Contra Costa County
Calling all music and greenbelt lovers! Enjoy
critically acclaimed bluegrass artists in a private
outdoor theatre at this first-ever Greenbelt Alliance
benefit concert. See reverse for details. 3 PM
to 6 PM. $50 members / $65 non-members.

Saturday, October 21
EcoFarming Fun
Contra Costa County
This family-friendly outing to EcoVillage Farm
in Richmond features a tour of this urban resource
offering locals access to a model of sustainable
living. After the tour you can pitch in and help
prepare the farm for upcoming seasons.

Sunday, October 29
Spectacular Sycamore Grove
Alameda County
South of Livermore lies one of the largest native
sycamore groves in California. Take a walk in
this unique open space, find out why areas like
this are at risk, and hear about efforts underway
to protect them. Optional post-hike wine tasting.

Saturday, November 4
Magnificent Maguire Peaks
Alameda County
Are you up for a ten-mile strenuous hike in a
hidden corner of Sunol Regional Wilderness? Enjoy
beautiful, wild terrain and spectacular views
of San Antonio Reservoir, Mt. Diablo, and Mission
Peak in this park near Fremont.
9:30 AM to 4:45 PM. S 10 B
Saturday, November 11
San Bruno Treasures
San Mateo County
Our destination is an Ohlone village site next
to seldom-visited Owl Canyon on San Bruno Mountain,
south of San Francisco. Experience Bay Area history
on this moderate 4-mile hike through some of the
last remnants of native Franciscan habitat.

Sunday, November 12
Secret Sonoma Scenery
Sonoma County
A hidden lake and little-known trails beckon us
to climb the hills above historical Sonoma Departmental
Center near Glen Ellen. Weâ??ll traverse
the western boundaries of this California landmark
and enjoy vistas of the Valley of the Moon and
beyond.

SPECIAL MEMBER OUTING!
Friday, November 24
Yoga in the Greenbelt
Marin County
Treat yourself to this special member-only post-Thanksgiving
hike and yoga retreat in the lush greenbelt of
Marin County, near Corte Madera. Weâ??ll
ascend Ring Mountain to reach an Ohlone â??kitchenâ?¼
rock amid acres of grasslands. Then enjoy an invigorating
yoga lesson (suitable for beginners) surrounded
by excellent views of the Bay and San Francisco.

Sunday, December 17
Best of Berkeley
Alameda County
This challenging urban trek starts near downtown
Berkeley and winds through neighborhoods into
the hills. Hikers will visit the Rose Garden,
hike along Tilden Park, pass by Grizzly Peak,
walk above Claremont Canyon, and then descend
through Berkeleyâ??s walkable city streets.
